Hot Air Balloons and more
So here’s a project that I did for Color Theory class. It was the only fun digital project really… We made a whole bunch of color swatches and things like that but this actually required some design so yeap! Enjoy.
My initial Hot Air Balloon, then I added a background, put some color variations in it.
Here are some more variations. This activity is called the Bezold Effect. What I’m supposed to be able to do is to change only one color in the design, and make it look different. For example, what I’m trying to go for is Day and Night… Of course they’re not gonna look drastically different since it’s the same design but you can tell that they’re kinda different.
More Variations. Playing with the colors of the rays and the clouds. I tried to keep it more simple by eliminating the colors, so here, I took out the white.
Here is my final design (the one I handed in for class)
Anyway, I kinda liked the white in the clouds, as an illustration. But I feel that the Bezold works best in this one.
Other stuff I did in class includes this Color Matrix
Hmmm… And the rest was color swatches from images, and the moodboard, which essentially was picking a concept (mine was Chinese New Year) creating color swatches (example: Reds, Yellows, Golds, Black), adjectives (Lucky, Joyful, Important, Delicious) and then displaying images (of the festival, the food, everything CNY related) and presenting it in a manner that people would be able to understand what my concept was without me having to really say much about it. It was kinda fun. A bit stressful because we were rushed by the end of this month due to the messed up weather and Fay and school closing and all… But that’s all over now =) Yay
DPU – Digital Publishing
Well I haven’t updated for a while. This month, I’ve been in a class called Digital Publishing where we started learning about InDesign and talked about things like Magazines, Publications, Brochues, things like that. Talked a lot about text placement and laying things out. Anyway, we had a group project, rebranding a company, and an individual project – making a mini magazine. So my magazine is 12 pages, and is about the South East Asia Tsunami that hit in 2004. So this is what I’ve finished up for class. I’m gonna edit it a bit more I think… and try to get hi-res images and all so I can print it out. Anyway… here it is. Follow the link to the whole Magazine… INTL Magazine Project
Here’s the Cover, the main article spread, and one side of the other article =)
Basically the main article is something I wrote for my first month class English Composition (A Memior) about the Tsunami, and the trip that I took down south for those summer camps with the church group. The second article wasn’t written by me, but is about the book Children of the Tsunami, a book which I helped to produce in my Junior and Senior Year of High School at Bangkok Patana School. It was sold in the United Kingdom as well as Thailand and online at Amazon.com
The requirements for class was that we had two ads. I have one ad which I did for Openmind Projects, which is on the inside cover. The second ad was for the One Campaign. I did make the ad myself, and the words are my own, but all of the ONE Ad campaign posters have similar text treatment so… I guess it looks like one of theirs. Anyway…

TPL Final Project: Book Cover
For out Typography class’s final project, we had to redesign a book cover, spine and back. I chose to redesign John Grisham’s book The Client, which was also made into a movie. I love John Grisham books, but most of them are pretty plain. I wanted to keep the simple design, because it sets the mood for most of his books – somber and serious. I kept it dark, but added my own image to the back cover, rearranged the text, added an image on the front. It’s simple, it looks like it’s a real book. I think I did ok.
TPL Class Activity
One of the class activities was to create a movie poster. We had one hour and a bunch of random images (a cumilation of free stock photos) to come up with a movie and to make a poster for it, which would have the movie title, actors/actresses, a tag line and the date. I picked two images and came up with a movie called Blind, starring some of my classmates and my brother.
TPL Lab Projects
The Lab Projects in TPL class were largely to do with Magazine layouts. We had to redesign a cover edition of a “Step inside Design” Magazine.
So It was supposed to be the 100th Design Issue, about trends and directions for the year. I looked up the color of this year, which is supposedly Blue, so i went with a blue background. Since this was a Typography class, my main focus was to work with how the text would be layed out.
This second piece was a redesign of a magazine spread from HOW magazine, another art and design related magazine.
Again I focused on working with the text and trying to use color to bring the two page spread together. It was challenging, because the original article was really well laid out, but I had fun.
